TNB Energy Services Sdn Bhd (TNBES) is currently
operating and maintaining 28 mini hydro stations (MHS) in Semenanjung
Malaysia of which 20 are in operation. The rehabilitation of the other
eight (8) is at the planning stage. These stations are located mainly in
the states of Perak, Kedah, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.
The operation and maintenance of the MHS have been carried out by a
dedicated operation and maintenance team in an efficient manner with
effective implementation of appropriate maintenance policy and strategy.
Over the past few years, the performance of the stations has shown
considerable improvement in terms of their availability and reliability.
The high average availability factor (above 80%) of these stations for
current year and annual generation yield of 15GWh is an indication that
these mini hydro stations have been managed in the most effective
manner.
The Yearly Average Availability Factor of the mini hydro stations
(MHS) from TNB's Financial Year (FY) 2006 until 2011 is showing an
increasing trend as shown in the graph below. TNB has been spending an
average of RM4 million per year to operate and maintain these MHS.
